Secure Communications Solution
End-to-end secure field communications: HF, VHF, personal radios, vehicle intercom and encryption
Overview
A complete Secure Communications Solution from FAAB Group covering the full chain from requirements understanding through rugged field-grade radios to encryption and key management. It combines HF long-range (over-the-horizon) radios, VHF radios with strong anti-interference, personal user radios (SPR) for in-team hands-free connection, and a vehicle intercommunication system, all tied together across team, group and organization levels using VHF and HF links. The solution emphasizes resilience in demanding field conditions (wide temperature range, waterproofing, rugged construction), assured connectivity through frequency hopping, channel selection and ad-hoc self-healing networks, and data security via AES-256 encryption, password protection, key-fill provisioning and multiple key-erasure methods.
The solution is structured in three parts: requirements understanding, field radios, and encryption. It addresses common connectivity challenges such as the absence of a network for voice communication, the absence of a network for data transmission, operating beyond communication range, and the need for security and anti-interference.
A layered network topology connects users across team, group and organization levels. VHF links are used for shorter-range connectivity and HF links for longer-range backbone connections. Node types across levels include personal radios, handheld VHF, portable/backpack VHF and HF, mobile (vehicle-mounted) VHF and HF, dispatch terminals, intercom and intercom switches, and inter-vehicle communication for scout teams.
The radio portfolio spans HF radios for over-the-horizon communication, VHF radios with strong anti-interference capability, a personal user radio (SPR) for in-team transverse connection with hands-free operation, and a vehicle intercommunication system. HF is offered in portable/backpack and vehicle-mounted forms; VHF is offered in handheld, portable/backpack and vehicle-mounted forms; the SPR set includes a personal radio and a field-grade headset; the vehicle intercom set includes a commander box, crew box, communication controller and speaker.
HF radio specifications: frequency range 1.6000 to 29.9999 MHz; communication types USB, LSB, CW, AM, 8FSK (2G) and 8PSK (3G); bandwidth 10 Hz; output power 20 W (portable/backpack) and 125 W (mobile/base); sensitivity -111 dBm (SINAD = 12 dB); frequency stability 0.5 ppm; dimensions 190x75x215 mm without battery (portable/backpack) and 135.5x190x367 mm (mobile/base); data rate up to 4.8 kbit/s; weight up to 3.3 kg without battery (portable/backpack) and up to 7.5 kg (mobile/base); operating temperature -40 C to 65 C; extended environmental, shock and vibration resistance, operation after 5 m submersion for 1 hour.
HF superior call set-up capacity: broadband receiver with multichannel parallel processing, smart frequency selection assisted by historical data, and local noise detection technology enable full-band scanning between 3 MHz and 30 MHz. Benefits include a higher success rate regardless of time and weather, fast establishment of communication without manually setting parameters, and clear voice communication.
HF full compatibility: supports operation modulations USB, LSB, CW, AM, and ALE (Auto Link Establish) in 2G and 3G, where ALE automatically selects the optimal working frequency. It supports all modulations from ALE 2G to 3G and is compatible with analog HF radios.
